As part of its effort to make the performing arts available to everyone, the Kennedy Center offers a free performance evey day on the Millennium State in the Grand Foyer. These performance of music, theater, and dance feature emerging artists from the Washington Area, across the nation, and around the world. The Millennium Stage was created and underwritten by James A. Johnson and Macine Isaacs to make the performing arts accessible to everyone in fulfillment of the Kennedy Center's mission to its community and the nation. I watched the perfomace of Etienne Charles. Born on the island of Trinidad in 1983, trumpeter Etienne Charles defies easy musical categorization. Charles made his debut as a leader at the New York City's Museum of Modern Art Summergarden series where he premiered Folklore Tales-a a suite of original music inspired by the folklore characters of Trinidad. His performance is the beginning of the D.C. Jazz Festival. His music features a unique melange of Afro-Caribbean rhythms and straight-ahead jazz. Especially,
Dance With La Diablesse is fascinating music. It employs jazz improvisation and harmoy with folk rhythms and chants.
