Kayaking down the Potomac by Natalie Fritz

Life jackets? Check. Paddles? Check. Spotify playlist specifically made for this day? Queued and ready to go.

As an intern in a city that is constantly moving, it can be hard to slow down and appreciate all D.C. has to offer sometimes. After one particularly stressful work week, my roommates and I ventured down to the Potomac to channel our more adventurous sides. We kayaked down the river by the Francis Key Bridge looking out onto Georgetown and it was truly serene. Although we may have almost accidentally joined a kayaking and canoeing race at the start of our adventure, it was a peaceful way to start the weekend off. Thankfully, no one tipped their kayak, as the water was not quite that warm in April.

If you're feeling stressed or even slightly overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of Washington, rent kayaks (justly priced at under $20 for single ‘yak for an hour) and spend an hour or two with good friends and the Potomac River. Additionally, if you collect any garbage during your kayaking adventure, the Francis Key Bridge Boathouse will offer you a small discount in return for helping the environment!  For the especially athletic Waipers, I highly recommend kayaking around the monuments; it's a great way to view them with a new perspective.
