Climate Change Update

This morning I found an article on CQ.com discussing the current debate about climate change. After our class discussion yesterday, I enjoyed reading about the legislation going through the Senate now. Currently, Senators John Kerry and Joseph Liberman are working on legislation that would help to reduce our federal deficit by $19 billion in addition to helping with our climate problems. This bill would place a cap on the emissions of green house gases beginning in 2013 and would require that pollution producers purchase emission allowances from the government. The bill would also include tax breaks for using nuclear power and increase tax benefits for those using renewable-energy resources. Finally, the bill looks to give money from off-shore oil drilling back to states on the coast so that research may be conducted to create new technologies for dealing with carbon emissions. The Senators hope to bring this bill to the floor before the August recess. - Kelly F.

Here's the end result of 'ClimateGate' which ties into our concerns over the credibility of the politicians and scientists involved.
