National Museum of African Art

The National Museum of African Art is a museum part of the Smithsonian Institution. The museum is located on the National Mall and has art collections from countries such as Mali, Tanzania, South Africa, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, and Morocco. Most of the items in the collection are sculptures, ceramics, textiles, masks, and musical instruments.

I believe that the continent of Africa is misrepresented by the U.S. media. U.S. citizens are not able to see the richness and uniqueness of Africa. We are all culture diplomats and as representatives of the United States, it is integral to learn about other cultural groups and broaden one’s horizons. The visual materials at the museum encourage and support the study of arts, cultures and history of Africa. I urge all Glenn Fellows to take the opportunity and visit the National Museum of African Art before leaving D.C.

National Museum of African Art is open daily from 10am to 5:30pm. The blue and orange lines at the Smithsonian Station stop, exit on the National Mall or on Independence Avenue.
